The Vision

Seeing the City Transformed: At the heart of inspiration is the dream to see Salford totally transformed.

image Many years ago, either side of the road towards the top of Cross Lane in Salford, were two men who each owned his own manor house and land, one house being called Oakhall. As Salford and Manchester grew in commerce and business, one man saw an opportunity to build new housing for the bank workers and their families, and so he built a row of good quality terraced houses. He had paid to have the services available at that time rooted in and the road infrastructure built.

The man who lived at Oakhall on the other side of Cross Lane decided he too would build houses so he could make a massive profit. However, he was not willing to pay his share of the cost of bringing in the services and after having seen an advert for land needed for a cattle market, out of spite, he sold his land for this purpose, knowing that no bank worker would want to live next to a cattle market. This cattle market existed at the top of Cross Lane for many years. One man’s decision destined the Pendleton area to be one of poor housing, low paid jobs and poverty for generations to come, lasting over 100 years.

Can one man make a decision to bring back to this City of Salford its true God-given destiny?
Our vision is for Salford to be transformed and fulfil its God-given destiny and this is what we have committed our lives to.

For a City to be transformed it will take each of us to make a decision to work together to see this happen. It will come out of a growing sense of unity, action and community, and an understanding of how we handle the change that takes place, in order for all to have an opportunity to benefit from the transformation.

The role of the Church

image Seeing the church fulfil her God-given role in transformation is essential. As Christians, we believe God loves and cares for each and every person in our City and that individually and collectively we have a massive God-given potential and destiny. The church has a vital role in working with others to unlock that potential. We, the Church, have a capacity to speak words of life and hope into our community and all who live in it. We also have the capacity to work in the community, helping in the delivery and improvement of many services and amenities that build a cohesive and strong community, just as God planned it from the very beginning.

The words from the Lord’s Prayer read: “Your Kingdom come, Your Will be done, on earth as it is in heaven”. We like to say “Your Kingdom come, Your Will be done, in Salford as it is in heaven”. As Christians we have a hope that Salford has the God-given potential to be a piece of the Kingdom of Heaven here on earth.

The role of Inspiration

Inspiration is set up to work in 3 main ways:

• To raise the level of intercessory and informed prayer for the City of Salford and its people
• To help increase, in availability and in quality, Preaching and Teaching which will help us to understand and apply the lessons God wants us to learn and which we can put into practice as we work towards transforming our city
• To act in an advisory and consultancy capacity in the area of transformation of the City of Salford by spending time with churches, Christian organisations and other groups and individuals.

We see Inspiration working in the above three ways, working alongside others and inspiring them in the following eight aspects of the life of this city:

• spiritual
• political
• economical
• sociological
• environmental
• health
• education
• arts/media/leisure
